Mixed Medium: Work In Progress
I've been back at it again working on a new 18"x24" piece in the studio. Oh by the way, I got a studio! When I have a moment I'll need to take some photos and do a little tour of the studio space/building, it's really great but more on that later.
I just wanted to do a post with some progress shots of my current piece. I was feeling bored with my little 8.5"x11" sketches and bored of plain old pencil on paper, so I decided it was time to challenge myself a little bit. I've been contemplating how to add depth to my pieces and make them more visually stimulating; the best idea I could come up with that sounded like fun was adding more mediums. So for this piece the majority of it is a graphite portrait drawing but it also has some watercolor, acrylic paint accents and embroidery. That's right, I literally punched holes in the paper (mixed media paper) with a needle and then stitched the design.
In my mind I thought it was going to be a lot easier than it turned out to be, but that's the great thing about it. I challenged myself and had a lot of fun doing it, even though stitching the current flowers felt like it took FOREVER and I still need to do more on the left side.
More to come!
